Dr. Vasil Llajo Member of the Albanian Parliament President of Intermedica Albania, Greece, Kosovo Dr. Vasil Llajo is an Anesthesiologist Doctor. With a career spanning over four decades, he has combined direct patient experience with a vision to modernize medical services in the countries of Albania, Greece and Kosovo. He was graduated with excellent results at the University of Tirana and began his medical career in the remote areas of the south of Albania and the surrounding villages. After years of service, he continued his career as an anesthesiologist in Tirana, as the Chief of Anesthesia Department of Neurosurgery of the University Hospital Center “Mother Teresa”. The following years he worked at the “KAT” Hospital in Athens, where he was exposed to the highest standards of European medicine. This experience gave impetus to his vision to bring the most advanced medical technology to Albania. In December 1994, Dr. Vasil Llajo became the initiator of an ambitious and courageous project in Albania. He knew very well what the health service here was missing. During a visit to Erlangen, Germany, at the central branch of Siemens, where medical equipment is produced, including scanners, in the hall dedicated to customers from all over the world, on a large map on the wall, the places equipped with scanners were illuminated, while Albania was in darkness. Exactly, this equipment was urgently needed. And this idea excited him a lot, he did not leave him alone until he made it a reality. After the installation of the first scanner in Albania by Dr. Llajo in April 1995, the red light for Albania was turned on in the Siemens map and it was no longer a dark spot. The installation of the first scanner was an important step for Albanian medicine. Its use marked a primary shift, moving from diagnosis through clinical symptoms to digital imaging. Dr. Llajo is the Founder of the first private laboratory in Albania in 1996. In the context of expanding the activity and supplementing his diagnostical center with laboratory diagnostics, the foundations were laid for the creation of a modern laboratory, according to European standards. This is where Intermedica began its journey, founded in June 1996, thanks to the persistence, vision and initiative of Dr. Vasil Llajo, to bring innovation to the private medical panorama. Today we count over 30 Intermedica branches in Albania and over 350 collaborating laboratories spread throughout the Republic. From 2007 to today Dr. Llajo has founded different companies in Albania, Greece and Kosovo with the aim of trading medical devices and orthopedic medical equipment, becoming the representative of prestigious companies Roche, Sysmex, Euroimmun (laboratory equipment) and Smith&Nephew, etc. Today, his network of laboratories, diagnostical centers and other companies employs over 600 professionals, bringing the highest standards of healthcare to thousands of citizens in Albania, Kosovo and Greece. From May 2025 he is a member of the Albanian Parliament representative of the Vlora Region for the Socialist Party. With a career that began from the remote villages of South Albania to the establishment of the largest diagnostic networks in the Country, Dr. Vasil Llajo best understands the real needs of citizens for an equitable, quality and accessible healthcare system for all.
